The art of everyday happiness

What is happiness? Sometimes it seems like it’s this big thing that we’re all trying to catch, when in reality it might just be hidden in a lot of small things that we often don’t even notice.

One of the things that we all want to be in life is happy. However, happiness is a tricky little bastard that is not always easy to find. And while we sometimes play hide and seek with it, I realised that achieving something is very hard if you don’t know what exactly is it that you’re trying to achieve. After a bit of soul-searching, I realised that for me the ultimate goal is creating a life filled with everyday happiness. Here’s what that means to me…

People often identify happiness with big things like winning a lottery or going to an exotic holiday. While those things are great (and may be never happening) I came to a conclusion that it’s better to fill your days with small happy details, than to spend your life waiting for the big moments to bring you happiness. For example, vacations are great and filled with joy, but they don’t happen that often. So, in-between great life moments like getting a new job, or adopting a dog, we need to make sure our day-to-day life is filled with lots of small things that make our lives much happier.

It might be cooking your favourite food, finding time to talk with your family, catching up on your fave TV show – all these things that might seem small will make a big difference. Happiness can be hidden in the pages of that new book that you can’t wait to read, in the smile of your child that is running to you for a hug, in a beautiful sunny day when you’ll take a walk in the nature. As cheesy as it may sound, happiness is all around us. And once you realise that it’s in the small things your life will be so much better. So, what is it that brings you a lot of everyday joy?
