I love it when photographs capture amazing moments, but lately I found myself more and more attracted to the surreal. I am inspired by photographers that play with the surrealism, that flirt with imaginary and that create fantasies. And one of my favourite artists that does all of that and more is Kylli Sparre.
After spending years training to become a ballet dancer, Kylli realised that it wasn’t the right path for her. Instead, she channeled her creative energy into photography and image manipulation that she uses to create dream like compositions. She translates her dance background into her images so effortlessly through elegant figures captured at the peak of choreographed motion. Placed in surreal background these elegant subjects awake emotions. As Kylli explains, “I spent years training to become a professional ballet dancer. When the studies were over, I realized it wasn’t the path for me. I have been searching for an outlet for my creativity ever since. Few years ago I found it in photography and never looked back. My passion now is creating images using photography and image manipulation. Whether the images are surreal, dreamlike or symbolic, they come from my thoughts, observations and experiences.”
Her stunning photographs usually show delicate feminine forms placed into dreamy landscapes. Kylli creates enchanted moments that take you into a new phantasy with every new image. She takes us down the rabbit hole to show us this fairytale world that may not always be light. In that contrast of black and white lies a lot of symbolism for you to get lost into.
