We think that when traveling to a new place, one should always check the exhibitions that are open at the time. Exhibitions are a fun way of learning about history and creating an even bigger cultural baggage.
This year is full of fashion exhibitions waiting to open, so we’ve done a little list for you with some of the most interesting ones (that does not mean that the ones we are not mentioning are not that interesting). Here we go:
“Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” at the MET Fifth Avenue
Starting 4th of May until 4th of September you can visit the Rei Kawakubo – Comme des Garcons exhibition called “Art of the In-Between”. It will feature 120 creations of the Japanese designer for Comme des Garcons. So, if you find yourself in New York during those days, visiting is a must!
“Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion” at The Victoria&Albert Museum
The Victoria and Albert museum will be hosting an extraordinary exhibition from May 27, 2017, to February 18, 2018. It is celebrating the work of the legendary Cristòbal Balenciaga. You can admire over 120 creations, as well as never seen before sketches, film and photography. So book your trip to London wisely.
“Hubert De Givenchy – To Audrey with Love” at The Geementemuseum
The Geementemusem (Hague, Netherlands) is, until 24th of March, hosting the “Hubert De Givenchy – To Audrey with Love” exhibition where you can see many of the designer’s favorite creations. What makes this exhibition even more fantastic is that it focuses on Givenchy’s friendship with Audrey Hepburn. Therefor there will be a lot of his designs that the actress wore, as well as some movie stills, sketches and photographs.
“The House of Dior: 70 years of Haute Couture” at the National Gallery of Victoria
Melbourne’s National Gallery of Vitoria will host “The House of Dior: 70 years of Haute Couture” starting 27th of August until 7th of November. Marking the seventieth anniversary of the couture house, this will be an amazing retrospective. Itäs exploring the history of Dior, passing through creations from Dior himself to Maria Grazia Chiuri. Can you spell FANTASTIC?!
“Margiela. The Hermès Years” at ModeMuseum
From 31st of March until 27th of August, Antwerp’s MoMu will host an exhibition celebrating the years Martin Margiela was the artistic director of Hermès. “The tribute exhibition also explores the relationship during these years between these collections and his own label, Maison Martin Margiela. Groundbreaking deconstruction and timeless luxury – the two worlds of designer Martin Margiela – are the starting point of the exhibition ‘‘Margiela – The Hermès Years’’.” MoMu
Which one of these fashion exhibitions will you visit?
