I have to start this post by saying that Adriene Mishler is one bad ass yoga teacher that knows how to get you engaged even from thousands of miles away. 30 days of yoga passed fast with her putting a smile on my face each and every day.
As I was saying a while ago here, I am not a gym person. No, gym is not for me. But I like working out and trying new stuff. A while ago one of my best friends asked me to join her in this 30 days of yoga program. I knew about it from another friend that was sooo happy with it. But I have to admit I was quite reserved at first. Yoga for 30 days?! Just yoga, every day, no days skipped? Neah.. I would rather lay on my couch, cause anyway is not like yoga will work up my muscles enough. You know what I mean?!
After a few days I realized that hey, anything could be better for my body than just sitting on the couch. So I messaged my friend up and we started the 30 days of yoga. I am not going to lie, the first few days were tough, I was finding so many excuses for not doing it, but thinking that I will have to send a message to my friend and say “Hey, I was so lazy today that I found 10 excuses for not to do 20 minutes of yoga”, pushed me a lot into doing it. After a while I wasn’t even thinking about not doing it, it was part of my every day.
The 30 days passed quite fast, I knew that everyday I will have at least one moment when I’ll smile, no matter how bad the day was – my personal time on my yoga mat. Adriene is such a good teacher, she knows how to engage and keep you coming back to the mat each and every day.
What has changed after all these days? Well my downward facing dog is getting way better, actually all of the poses are. I feel stronger, physically, but more importantly mentally. I am more calm, I’m more positive. I know I can do stuff if I really put my mind into them. These 30 days of yoga gave me more than I expected – I am more flexible, my muscles are more toned, I am more aware about my posture, but most importantly this took me on the road to a more grounded self.
Of course it’s not a miracle “today you’re this, tomorrow you’re different” kind of thing. It’s a work in progress, like everything in life, well like life itself. But with consistency, you learn you are stronger than you thought you were.
Ok, I got a bit too emotional here, but I swear this is exactly what I needed in my life right now. I actually finished the 30 days of yoga program almost two weeks ago, I took a little break for 3 days (in which I actually missed it) and now I am back with yoga camp. I just love it!
P.S. As you can see in the picture above, Zeus enjoyed it too. 😉
