Is being over trends the next trend?

  • Ivona Josipovic

As the market is overflown with same items, I couldn’t help but wonder if being over trends is the next trend?

I’m so over trends. I can’t help but feel like the market is overflown with barely different items. Every store seems to sell almost the same clothes, and it makes me want to buy none of it. Call me stubborn, but the only effect trends have had on me lately is repellent.

It’s not the first instance I’ve felt like avoiding trends. Every time that the market is oversaturated with a certain item (like red sock boots, or a teddy bear coat) I lose any desire to wear it. What is funny about this season is that I really like a lot of clothes from the latest collections. But, since I see them on almost everyone it kills my fashion appetite. The uniform-ication (is that a word?) point that we are reaching is ridiculous.

With all the fast fashion stores and social media platforms spreading trends like they are viruses, how can one participate without getting lost in the crowd?

I know that personal style makes all the difference in the way we wear our clothes, but there is only so much one can do. There are still many ways to play around with style, but the sad reality is that we are looking more and more alike. I see a lot of girls in the trendiest pieces from fast fashion brands, but I don’t see any personality (originality? excitement?) in what they’re wearing. I guess that that effect is the reason why I’ve been avoiding trends lately, even if I like them. The only solution I have found for my new found trend allergy is buying vintage. Also, it helps using accessories to add a touch of personality to any outfit. The rest I’m yet to figure out.

How about you? Do you enjoy new trends or you also feel like no trends is the next trend? How do you feel about fast fashion and the fact that we are all often wearing same things? Any help, ideas and opinions are welcome.
