I started thinking about failure and the complicated relationship we have with it. We are afraid of it and we do our best to avoid it, and when the inevitable moment where we fail in something comes, it is the worst. There aren’t many other things that can make us feel so small, make us question ourselves and our self-worth and leave a bitter taste in our lives. Of course, not all failures are the same, they come in bigger and smaller forms and depending on that they can just scratch the surface or really knock us down. And as always in life, the more you care the more you will feel it.
Now, what I find interesting about failure today is that it is seen as a very bad thing as we are all supposed to be #WINNING all the time. But, we are only human. No one is good at everything, no one knows it all and no one can have it all. The advertising society surely doesn’t want us to think that way. The pressure that is put on people nowadays is bigger than ever! We should all have amazing careers, great bodies, happy families and overall fabulous lives. So while we aim for this unrealistic goal of course we will face failure from time to time. And when it happens remember that “Failure is a bruise, not a tattoo.” Also, stop and reflect about how badly do you really want it. If it’s something insignificant it might be best to let it go and make more time for things that really matter. And if it’s something that you really want and you failed at your chance, just remember that what separates winners from losers is quitting. We all face failure, but whether we give up or not makes all the difference. So next time you fail (and it happens to all of us) try not to be too hard on yourself. Remember to keep pushing and work on achieving your goals. Lift yourself up and know that the bruise will go away no matter how bad it may feel. And always remember that
“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.” – Robert F. Kennedy

everyone is going to fail at some time in their life and this is such great advice. I love how you say it’s a bruise and not a tatoo. Beautiful post!

you’re right, there is an enourmous amount of pressure to always be “winning” and on “point”. perfection keeps getting pushed down our throats as if it’s the only way forwards in life. you’ve got to be and look a certain way for people to like you etc. it’s incredibly sad how disconnected of a society we’ve become. i really feel for younger generations growing up to this and thinking it’s normal. basing their role models and self-worth on following instagram “babes” with massive followings, as if that makes you’re life complete. failure is really painted in a negative light and it can be rather negative impact on ones self, but you do end up learning from it. failures may not make sense at the time, they may not make sense in two years time, but eventually the lesson becomes clear and if you’re smart enough, you learn from it and improve.
