Besides the star-studded crowds of Coachella that take over the desert for two weekends of fun and hippie outfits, what other amazing festivals are out there? If you can’t or don’t want to go to California, don’t worry. There are great festivals all around the globe that don’t get as much media attention, but are equally as awesome. So move over Coachella, let’s see what else is out there in the music festivals world. Here are Best Music Festivals to go to asap.
Checking out Primavera Sound Festival might be cool because a) It’s in Barcelona and b) it has some great performers. Between June 1-5 at the seafront location of Parc del Fòrum you will be able to enjoy performances by Radiohead, Air, Tame Impala, Dinosaur Jr., Sigur Rós, PJ Harvey, Animal Collective, Black Lips, Tortoise, Savages, LCD Soundsystem. The colorful and energetic city of Barcelona will for sure show you a good time.
Iceland offers quite a unique experience with their Secret Solstice festival taking place just outside Reykjavik in Laugardalur, June 16–19. Celebrate in the northern lights with 96 hours of constant sunlight allowing you to party day and (white) night. Enjoy Iceland’s amazing nature and landscapes by dancing inside a volcano or a glacier. All these crazy parties almost made me forget about the performers that include Radiohead, Deftones, St Germain, Action Bronson, Goldie, Afrika Bambaataa, Derrick Carter, Of Monsters and Men.
Let’s go to USA with Firefly Festival happening at The Woodlands, Dover, DE from June 16-18. Here you can indulge in some camping or glamping if you prefer and enjoy many other activities besides the concerts. From The Beercade to a dinner and a hammock hangout, you can really enjoy your time here. The list of performers includes some start as well as newcomers and just to name a few you can watch Kings of Leon, Florence and the Machine, Mo, ASAP Rocky, Major Lazer and others.
There are many great festivals down under in the Aussie land, but we optioned for Splendour in the Grass. This 3 day camping and music event takes place at North Bayron Parklands from 22-24 July. Names that will be hitting the stage include The Kills, The Cure and The Strokes among many others.
And last but not least is the Summer Sonic festival in Japan. We finish our little trip around the world in August between the cities of Tokyo and Osaka. On the weekend of 20-21 you can enjoy performances by Mark Ronson, Fergie, The Offspring, Radiohead and others. From what I understood the bands switch performing in both cities, and either one you choose great fun is guaranteed.
