Ying Gao – designing the future

  • Doina Tatu
  • 4 February 2017

Fashion designers often take their inspiration from technology, creating collections that go many years ahead. Ying Gao is one of them, pushing every limit of the imagination, creating clothes that look like they’re coming from the future.

We’ve come across Ying Gao’s work a little while ago and we are definitely amazed by it. Ying Gao is a fashion designer that makes you rethink everything you know about clothes, creating a strong link between clothing and technology.

Her creations are exhibited all around the world, in museums and galleries, invinting the public in a fascinating, modern world.

There would be so much more to say about her work, about her projects like  “Facebook as a pop-up book” that “materializes the social network Facebook, giving the clothes structural elements belonging to the pop-up book. Taking her inspiration more from the form and the aesthetics of a book than its literary aspect, Ying Gao reshapes Facebook into a pop-up skirt” or “Commonplace” that “explores anew the idea that it is possible to own less clothing if they are better designed”.

Her designs talk about present problems of the modern world, giving a solution for most of them. So if you have the opportunity to visit any of her exhibitions, do so and let yourself be amazed.
