The best fashion exhibitions in 2018

Let’s take an imaginary trip around the world to visit the best fashion exhibitions of 2018.

From London to Paris, and all the way to New York, we are daydreaming about visiting these amazing fashion exhibitions happening in 2018.

1. Musée de la Mode de Paris: “Martin Margiela Retrospective”

Palais Galliera Paris, 3rd March – 15th July 2018.

This exhibition is dedicated to Martin Margiela, fashion’s most secretive figure. The Belgian designer has left his mark on fashion with a strong conceptual approach. With his love for innovation and deconstruction Margiela belongs to the avant-garde visionaries of an era. The exhibition showcases his work from the first collection in 1989 up to 2009.

2. The Metropolitan Museum of Art: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”

MET New York, 10th May – 8th October 2018.

Fashion gets inspired by anything, and religion is no exception. Form Dolce and Gabanna, Chanel, Valentino and Balenciaga’s reinterpretation of a cardinal’s cloak, the imagery, and symbols from Christianity can often be seen on the runways. Over 150 pieces will be displayed to the public telling the story of this intriguing connection. Even the Vatican has agreed to lend about 50 pieces for the occasion. Some of them come from the Sistine Chapel and include jewelry, Papal robes, tiaras and other treasures dating from the 18th century onward.

3. The Design Museum: “Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier”

The Design Museum London, 10th May – 7th October 2018.

With his recent passing in November last year, Azzedine Alaïa left the fashion world in tears. But, his legacy lives on and an exhibition in his honor is opening its doors in May. 60 of the pieces on display were chosen by the designer himself before his death. Famous for his unique ways of working with the fabric, Alaïa created signature pieces that are now collector’s items. New pieces have also been commissioned for the show, making the occasion even more special. That will allow artists and designers to pay their tributes to this fashion legend.

4. The Victoria and Albert: “Frida Kahlo’s Wardrobe”

Victoria and Albert Museum London, 16th June – 4th November 2018.

Frida Kahlo’s story is the one of great power and creativity intertwined with tragedy. The Mexican artist will forever be remembered for her work, as well as her story and strong personal style that was reflected in everything she touched. Her wardrobe was no exception. In this exhibition, the visitors will be able to see a collection of clothing and personal artifacts that belonged to Frida Kahlo.

5. Denver Art Museum: “Dior from Paris to the world”

Denver Art Museum Colorado, 18th November – 3rd March 2019.

The first major retrospective of Dior to happen in the US is set for November this year. The Denver Art Museum will explore the rich history of the French luxury fashion house. Highlighting 70 years of amazing legacy, the show will cover iconic pieces by Christian Dior himself, as well as collections designed by his successors like Maria Grazia Chiuri.
